Frank Ocean’s Homer Update
Last August, we had a chat regarding Frank Ocean’s new luxury jewelry brand ‘Homer’. As a very private and successful individual, Ocean has been able to contribute to the fashion industry at such a high standard that it has mimicked his secrecy and exclusivity. This was perfect for Ocean - having a fan-base that was desperate for updates on him and those who are fond of his fashion choices, gave him the exclusive edge that makes his jewelry appealing, and, given how triumphant the brand has been already, proves his lifestyle right.
Early last year however, Homer announced its update, with the store gaining a much more larger catalog and more importantly, an online store. Homer now has a user-friendly interface, navigating along with sleek designs and videos, showcasing each piece in both the old collection and the new one; ‘When a Dog Comes to Stay’.
When a Dog Comes to Stay is a collection dedicated to the animal, with a series of dogs, rings, scarves, pendants, bones and bracelets being produced in Ocean’s typical array of colours and textures, including lab-grown diamonds, 18 karat gold and sterling silver (with additional colours).
What makes this collection so successful is the lightness of the pieces. Complimenting Ocean’s understanding of the collection, it “explores the dog as a symbol of one that walks lighter. A sheepdog, an Akita, and a bull terrier are rendered in pixels as if to simplify the qualities that make them our family. To the dog, it seems, loyalty is without thinking.” As part of the showcase of the collection, a series of clips titled ‘I Remember’ was produced, featuring models thinking back to various times of their life while wearing the pieces.
